Irish company Soundwave have recently launched their innovative social music app, which has already garnered praise from Apple founder Steve Wozniak and Stephen Fry. The application allows the user to choose an area, either local to them or worldwide, and find out what music people are listening to. Rumours are once again rife in the cut-throat world of social media, this time regarding Facebook’s enigmatic invites that have been sent out for their June 20event. The question is now being asked – are your friends on Facebook really people? Tests reveal that the social media platform might be teaming with bots that are busy siphoning off your data and attempting to influence your decisions. Researchers at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) have designed a bot army of fake automatic friends and found that when tested they managed to imitate real people well enough to infiltrate social networks.
