A global survey of 2,000 tablet users by application performance management company Compuware has revealed that as many as 40% of websites crash or present glitches when accessed by these devices. These findings are significant because the study also showed that tablet owners have high expectations when it comes to their web experiences, and a third are less likely to make purchases online from companies that don’t meet those expectations. Wind River has just won an award for their User Experience kit that enables the rapid creation of automated test scripts for Android devices. Tablets designed for youngsters are becoming ever more popular due to their easy and appealing user interface, with one of the most recent entries into the market being the Kurio from Techno Source. According to feedback from UK tablet users, consumers find adverts more engaging on these larger devices than on their small screen smartphones. The research from Nielsen also shows that tablet users in Britain are far more likely to buy products online and respond to targeted advertising than smartphone users. The survey of over 1,700 users of various mobile devices showed that 10% of tablet users had made a direct purchase using their device, compared to 7% of smartphone owners. Despite competitors such as the Amazon’s Android Kindle doing their best to gain market share, a study by ChangeWave has shown that when it comes to consumer satisfaction levels, Apple’s iPad is undeniably rated top. The survey showed that customer satisfaction levels with iPads are through the roof, while Amazon’s Kindle barely measures above the rest of the rival tablets currently being released on the marketplace. It’s not uncommon for us to get snippets of information about Apple’s submitted patents, and the latest is that their lawyers have revealed a few very interesting patent details outlining the company’s plans to introduce gesture controls to its range of portable devices with motion sensor technology. The patent mentions their gestures patent “made a distance above a touch sensitive display”, reminiscent of gaming controllers such as the Nintendo Wii’s interface and more recently Microsoft’s controller free motion gaming peripheral which detects and transfers  commands into navigational movements and “clicks”.
