Ethnography can help investigate very complicated or critical design challenges. A good researcher is essential when observing and/or interacting with target audiences in their real-life environment.

International usability testing can benefit from: high-level task definition; locally-informed participant recruitment and locally-delivered moderation & analysis (supported by a thorough Testing Plan).

Usability testing can be used to quantify usability. This can allow you to compare a site’s statistical performance before and after a re-design, in order to find out if it has improved. This method is not perfect, but can be very useful.
