Well, if that sounds like you… join the club! This week we all experienced ‘Blue Monday’; a day that the wider social media have claimed to be the unhappiest day of the year. Considering we’re only 20 days into the year so far, it’s good to know that that day is behind us and it can only be good news from here on in.
However, if you’re still feeling those January blues, we’ve compiled a set of our favourite apps to boost those serotonin levels, drop the Christmas pounds and keep you well fed and entertained until the next pay cheque comes in… and if that isn’t enough, there’s a cat meme. Happy?
Keep on track
Myfitnesspal is a useful tool for tracking your calorie intake and weight loss goals. You can add your own recipes, scan bar codes or add food items from their database. At the end of the day it adds up you totals and gives you an estimate of your project weight in 5 weeks time (Note: this is sometimes very encouraging, and sometimes very disheartening!). More than anything, this app is great at helping you realise just how many calories are in that bacon buttie you had this morning, so that next time you might opt for the fat free granola instead.
Gym regimes are hard
If the thought of going to the gym at 6am makes you put your alarm back on snooze, the Seven app can help you achieve your fitness goals in a fraction of the time. The main idea of this app is to talk you through 9 different exercises (think star jumps and squats) that take a total of 7 minutes to complete. There are a few 7 minute workout apps available right now, but this one makes the list for its progress and achievements feature that helps to keep us motivated. We all deserve a pat on the back sometimes right?
We all like cake
When it all becomes to much and a you can’t keep your mind off that double chocolate salted caramel cheesecake (you’re welcome), foodgawker is the app of choice here. Not only useful for finding those healthy recipes for your new years resolutions, it can help you find that indulgent treat you’ve been lusting after. Linked to a wide selection of food blogs, foodgawker provides a feast for the eyes. Linking recipes and sources from all over the web, you can now quite literally have your cake and eat it.
A retail fix
January is always a tough month after the excesses of Christmas, and no doubt the January sales have played their part too. When it comes to a situation like this, it’s always nice to find an excuse for that meal out (40% off? Yes please).
