SAP has been talking gamification at the recent Enterprise 2.0 conference in Santa Clara – they aim to change the way that users engage with their software. The term gamification, defined as “the integration of game mechanics and game-thinking in non-game environments to boost engagement, loyalty and fun”, has been creeping into marketing speak a great deal this year. Users are now able to experience the fresh layout for themselves, which has been compared to Facebook’s look in many ways and comes with some interesting new features. Predicted in 2006 to make a 2012 debut, cutting-edge nano technology applied to user interfaces has made a slightly earlier appearance, with Nokia showing off their new prototype at an event recently in London. Dubbed a ‘Kinetic’ display, their device has a flexible body constructed by lining elastomer (essentially bendy plastic) with carbon nanotubes. Matt Walsh, the Executive Experience Director at advertising agency Crispin Porter and Bogusky, has spoken of the need for brands to capitalise on the narrative links between touch points to prompt action and interest from consumers.
