Tomorrow’s welfare state must think radically differently if it is to meet citizens’ healthcare needs. The biggest potential lies not in medicine and technology alone, but in delivering treatment more effectively. Last week I had the pleasure of going to Oslo for the “PULS service design in healthcare” conference. It was aimed to gather those engaged in innovative healthcare delivery from across different industries and professions. At the conference itself, the program was packed with inspiring content and people that have been a part of improving patient health today and that are passionate about improving healthcare in the future. I’ll…

Over the last few months, I’ve had the pleasure to talk about service design at General Assembly. These talks have now ‘snowballed’ into a longer workshop session, coming soon! 23rd of March I’ll be facilitating a ‘hands-on’ workshop with the agenda to dig into what service design is and what we do. Last week I did a talk at General Assembly in London for the User Experience (UX) Design class. Service Design and UX Design have a lot in common as both disciplines have sprung from the traditional design field and that it’s all about the interactions and touchpoints. In UX Design, you design the interaction between the users and the digital touchpoints. In Service Design, you design the interactions between the users and the different touchpoints of the service provider. Anyhow, here’s a few key slides and some thoughts from the presentation to enjoy over a cup of coffee. What is…

I was lucky to be invited to the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (HiOA) to share my service design experiences with the master students. This was the third time visiting but it’s still quite a surreal experience having lunch with the teachers rather than the students. 10 years ago I started my design education here, but it feels like yesterday that I was sanding, soldering, painting and building prototypes in the workshop. It was quite a nostalgic experience.   Thinking about the years that have passed much have changed since I was a student, including the field…
