Last week I did a talk at General Assembly in London for the User Experience (UX) Design class. Service Design and UX Design have a lot in common as both disciplines have sprung from the traditional design field and that it’s all about the interactions and touchpoints. In UX Design, you design the interaction between the users and the digital touchpoints. In Service Design, you design the interactions between the users and the different touchpoints of the service provider. I was lucky to be invited to the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (HiOA) to share my service design experiences with the master students. This was the third time visiting but it’s still quite a surreal experience having lunch with the teachers rather than the students. 10 years ago I started my design education here, but it feels like yesterday that I was sanding, soldering, painting and building prototypes in the workshop. There’s been some really good talks and discussions at the Global Service Design Conference in Amsterdam, as well as a huge intake of coffee. There is a sense of openness in the service design community which makes it a great place to discuss what service design have become and what it might be in the future. I was lucky enough to attend the 9th annual Service Design Global Conference in the Netherlands from the 26th – 28th October 2016 with one of our Lead Service Designers, Ine Vassøy, and I have captured my highlights from this event. It’s been some time since our last Spotless update, but that’s not to say we haven’t been busy. Today in particular we have a lot to be happy about: First of all, a big congratulations to John, who has recently been promoted to Senior Experience Designer. We have been busy working away on the new site, as well as moving into our shiny new office in Old Street and putting the finishing touches to our custom built research rooms.
