Those who joined up for Twitter’s recent beta testing program are reporting that the new version comes with a completely redesigned user interface and even functions differently from the Twitter apps we know and love. The new design of the app’s interface is even more minimal than before, with tabs represented by text rather than buttons. A sliding pane on the left hand side allows quick access to all the tabs, and also displays the number of unread messages and notifications. Apple have continued with their endeavour to rival Android and bring elements from 1970’s science fiction novels into our day to day lives with the announcement that the new iPhone 5 will include an integrated fingerprint scanner, referred to as Touch ID. Rather than unlocking their mobile with a passcode, pattern or face recognition, the user will be able to gain access as well as make purchases with the press of a digit. Fans are still eagerly awaiting the release of the Xbox One, but a sneak peek of its UI dashboard has been gleaned via a video leak on YouTube. We’ve thus far we’ve been provided with a scant few glimpses of the Xbox One’s dashboard, but the video that has recently surfaced on YouTube demonstrates for the first time how the console, controller and dashboard perform in action. Speculation regarding smart watches has been rife for months now, and it turns out that the first firing shot of the inevitable war for domination in the market has just been launched by Samsung, with the announcement of their Galaxy Gear smart watch. While other smart watches are already available, this is the first from a major company and has clearly seen a great deal of attention, money and testing thrown at it. Elements from 1970s science fiction films entering our daily lives has increasingly become a part of living in the 21st Century – Google have joined forces with Virginia Tech to design a smartcar with automated driving. Earlier this week, a small crowd watched as two representatives climbed aboard the automated Google car which then went on to perform two test laps of a 2.2 mile track and demonstrated its ability to automatically decelerate in response to the proximity to a second vehicle.
